|Northern Lights update|
report from Wendy Keenan
We thought we would share our great news with you.
As you may know already Northern Lights has been successful with its grant applications – we have money from Awards for All and Highland Council. So our future for the next year is financially secure and we can afford to tour for a week in June. We are visiting two primary schools, a high school and two arts centres in Skye and Lochaber, then finishing in grand style at the Scottish Gathering in Inverness, a total of eleven performances. We are in the process of printing posters and leaflets, which will be handed out at the performances, which mention that the dances are inspired by the Bahá’í Writings as well as giving descriptions of the dances, etc. This is potentially the biggest teaching event up here for a long time!
We so impressed the Highland Council with our grant application – and particularly personal contact by Erin – that Northern Lights have been asked to provide dance workshops during the school summer holidays as part of their summer activity programme! We are getting paid well for it and will also be paid all our expenses. Most of the dancers will be joining in. We are covering the rural parts of Lochaber and Fort William and will give a total of 12 workshops, with ages 7-9 and 10 and above. Again an opportunity to give out our leaflets. We have not fully decided what we will do with our riches from the week in August, but there is talk of another tour, but this time to a teaching goal area such as Malta or Cyprus next summer – but that is a long way off!
We shall be writing to the papers about the summer tour and hope to get plenty of publicity! The dancers have worked so hard and are such a great group of people they deserve this recognition.
Hope you are as excited as us about our news.
Love to you all,
