This site was created using Sausage Software's HotDog Pro. Code validation is performed using CSE HTML Validator and site navigation is checked regularly using Webfire's Linkbot (which comes with HotDog).
Pages on this site are checked using recent versions of Mozilla, Netscape (incl. 4.75 – see note 1), Opera 6 and Internet Explorer 5.5, though screen layout on some browsers may differ slightly from that intended. Pages are checked on a 15 inch SVGA monitor with a screen size of 1024 by 768 but are mostly designed for a window width of 800 pixels (the most common width used!). Nearly all information pages are restricted to a width of 600 pixels so that they can be viewed on VGA displays (representing 5% of visitors to this site).
NOTE 1: There appears to be a bug in some versions of Netscape which causes fully justified text occasionally to display left justified. Despite much effort, I cannot find a completely reliable work-around for this problem, apart from not using justification at all.
Many areas of this site use frames to display a sidebar to aid navigation. However, the user always has the option, on entering a framed area, to select a no-frames display without losing the comprehensive links incorporated into all pages. Readers using VGA displays (or with a narrow browser window) may find that frames are automatically disabled, but may have to double-click the [Back] option to get back out of an area's entry page.
For best results, Mozilla/Netscape should be set to default to Times New Roman 11pt, and Internet Explorer to Times New Roman Medium (fonts that seem right for most sites). Most font attributes on this site are generated using CSS1 style sheets, in accordance with the specification laid down in REC-CSS1-19990111. Recent browser versions implement this standard pretty well; Netscape 4.xx, on the other hand, ignores even some basic attributes (e.g. superscript).
